Holiday from hell? Don’t let dental disasters spoil your annual getaway

We work hard all year long. So, when our summer holiday comes around, we do everything we can to make sure it’s perfect. Getting a new haircut, buying new clothes and shopping for sun tan lotion is all part of the exciting build up to going away. But a dental emergency could be a big, black cloud on the holiday horizon.
So, how can you dodge a holiday disaster? While the unexpected can always happen, there are things you can do to tip the odds in your favour.

How to prevent a dental emergency
Prevention is always better than cure. If it’s been a while since your last dental health examination, it can be a good idea to book an appointment before you jet off. Your dentist will be able to identify any dental problems and arrange treatment. Better to lie back on a beach than recline on a dental chair while on holiday!

European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
If you’re off to Europe on your hols, don’t forget to pack your European Health Insurance Card. It’s free to apply for an EHIC, and it covers you for essential medical treatment while you’re away. ‘Essential’ medical treatment varies from country to country so it is prudent to have travel medical insurance also.

Don’t leave without travel insurance
Just like your tickets and passport, travel insurance is a holiday essential. A dental emergency abroad could result in a large hole in your spending money so make sure your policy covers you for dental treatment. Find out how to choose the right travel insurance policy.
